Problems with Mac

I can envision using this site for fun or for review in an introductory literature class. Unfortunately the platform does not support Mac platform without Microsoft Windows--poor me!

Simple

This was sooo easy!  I will definitely use the program to create crosswords for my students.  I could use this as a "test" review for Othello.  So nice to find something simple to do.

Pre-made puzzles

I created a crossword for my intro to statistics class.
I imagine that there are plenty of pre-made crosswords available on other websites, so there is really no reason to completely re-invent the wheel here, but I did like the fact that you could select your own word bank, large or small.  I actually just copied and pasted definitions into the program from a quiz that I already had typed up, so it took hardly any time at all to create the crossword.
I had never heard of this program before, and I really liked it.  I definitely couldn't use it all the time in my math classes, but it is ideal for statistics and geometry classes which have a TON of vocabulary.  I even give vocabulary quizzes towards the beginning of the year for my statistics classes, so this is a GREAT review tool for me that I can totally see myself using!  I especially liked the fact that you had the option to print paper copies of the crossword as well as have an interactive one on a website.

Study tool

I am NOT a lover of crosswords...but I know lots of people are...So I created one for a review of topics of a chapter 9 that I am teaching right now...I placed it in Angel so that if students wish to , they can use it as a study tool.

Nice for beginners

Easy to use. Like the rest of you have been saying, great for reinforcing learning for specific topics. This tool should help the students who are visual learners, and like to use technology.  I plan to use this one.

Great and free

Eclipse is an easy tool to use to create puzzles.  My only concern was the downloading part; I was hesitant to do it.  First, I wanted to make sure I was on the right site.  Second, the size of the file was also a concern.  Finally, it did not take time to download and then they even offer step by step help. Great site and it is free.

Great tool

As I'm an ocean enthusiast (master's from FIT in marine biology), I HAD to create a marine themed puzzle.  As I was creating this I thought of several interesting ways this could be incorporated into a classroom or even informal learning centers (COSEE Florida does a lot of partnering and working with these types of organizations):
1) review or extra credit
2) introduction of technical terms in a fun way (could then have more interactive discussion of these terms as students have questions about terms)
3) activity for students to take home from informal learning center to keep education going at home (something for parents/grandparents to provide to kids)
4) interactive way for students to create their own study tool, have the students create the crossword and exchange with others
I think this is a great tool that can be utilized in a lot of different ways.  Just thought of another one, these could be posted on websites to keep visitors coming back or learn about the site.  New updates could be keywords and then the hints could be the news, or there could be jokes with the one or two-word punchlines being the word (not sure how educational but its fun).  What kind of key doesn't open a lock?.... A MONKEY haha
